  Several new direct flights to Bergen
Eastern Airways has launched the routes Aberdeen - Bergen and Newcastle – Bergen. Norwegian will start with additional morning departures from London / Gatwick to Bergen, and from March 2010 they will open new routes from Barcelona, Rome, Copenhagen, Stockholm and Tromsø. Wizzair has also start direct flights from Gdansk, and will start between Krakow and Bergen 28 March.

  Ole Bull 200th anniversary
Ole Bull (1810-1880) was born in Bergen and became a worldfamous violin virtuoso. He made Norway famous abroad and played an important role in the establishment of a number of
cultural institutions in Norway. This year we celebrate his 200th birthday, with cultural events throughout the year.

  Bergen plays host to a number of major international artists
During summer 2009, Bergen was host to a number of major international artists, such as Bruce Springsteen, Coldplay, the Eagles and Mötley Crüe. So far, Depeche Mode, Mark Knopfler, Rammstein and Iron Maiden have announced concerts in 2010, but more will follow, so please pay attention. The city of culture also offers a varied entertainment programme including the Bergen International Festival, Bergenfest, Night Jazz, an outdoor opera event, the Grieg in Bergen festival and regular concerts at Troldhaugen.

  Bergen International Festival 2010
The festival will run from 26 May to 9 June. The Philip Glass film Koyaanisquatsi will be screened to the accompaniment of live music performed by Philip Glass’s own ensemble and Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra. The young chief conductor Eivind Gullberg Jensen, NDR Radiophilharmonie and soloist Gabriela Montero will perform Grieg and Berlioz. Leif Ove Andsnes and the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra, Nikolaj Znaider and Saleem Abboud Ashkar are some of the other highlights, together with the witch hunt opera Anne Pedersdotter, a new stage production directed by Calixto Bieito and a celebration of Ole Bull, the 19th century violin.

  Open-air Opera
Experience full-scale open-air opera. At 21.00 on 25, 26 and 30 June, La Traviata will be performed in beautiful surroundings at Bergenhus Fortress, a natural amphitheatre. Gusieppe Verdi’s La Traviata is one of the most famous and popular operas of all time. Staged for the first time in 1853, the opera has become immensely popular, and it is a staple of the operatic repertoire. Enjoy the summer evening, the performance and the music, together with a good variety of food and drinks.

  Shark tunnel at Bergen Aquarium
Bergen Aquarium is building its own shark tunnel. The tunnel will be six metres long and will give visitors an opportunity to experience sharks and other fish close up. Construction work is well under way and it is scheduled for completion in April 2010.

  Vannkanten waterworld
Bergen’s biggest waterworld complex has water slides and pools for that are suitable for adults and children, for the daring among us and for the more cautious. Experience wonderful indoor and outdoor pools, the Super-bowl slide, a Jacuzzi, food and drink at ‘stranden’ (the beach) and a separate adult section.

  ‘Walk like a Norwegian’ and Treasure Hunt on Mount Fløyen
From mid-June to mid-August, you can take part in guided walks on Mount Fløyen and learn about local history, the trolls, the Norwegian fairytales and Norwegians’ love of walking. Treasure hunts for children and adults are also available during the same period.

Experience Bergen’s ’silver treasure’ at Permanenten West Norway Museum of Decorative Art.  ’Sølvskatten - Bergens gullsmedkunst ’ (Silver treasure – Bergen’s goldsmith art) is a permanent exhibition displaying silver and gold objects made in Bergen over the course of  500 years.

  Concerts, scenery and knowledge – Harald Sæverud
Now you can combine a concert, new knowledge and beautiful scenery. Learn more about the pianist Harald Sæverud from Bergen through the new exhibition in the garden of his former home Siljustøl. Spring concerts are held at Siljustøl every Sunday between Easter and the opening of Bergen International Festival.
