Bergen International Festival 2009 Bergen International Festival will run from 20 May until 4 June. The Berliner Ensemble will stage a production of the Threepenny Opera. Norwegian actors, a choir and Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra will take part in the world premier of a Danish production of ’Sounds like you’, and there will be a concert featuring Sissel Kyrkjebø and Bryn Terfel. Read more   Free city centre bus on weekdays The former free city centre bus resumed services from Monday 3 November. The bus will run every 10 minutes on weekdays between 7.30 and 21.00. Read more   Seize the day at Jacobs Bar og Kjøkken Jacobs has traditionally offered accommodation and run a pub/café. In February, however, the pub reopened as the restaurant Jacobs Bar & Kjøkken. The chefs base the menu on the fresh ingredients they get in every morning. Read more   Local ingredients combined with Continental tastes Beyer’en Bar og Restaurant is the new restaurant at First Hotel Marin. The idea is to combine local ingredients with Continental tastes: the menu includes lamb from Flåm, ice cream from Sogn og Fjordane and cured meat from Hardanger. Read more   New museum: The Holberg Museum The Holberg Museum, which opened on 29 October 2008, is housed in the old Latin School in Bergen together with Bergen School Museum. The long-held wish for a permanent commemoration of Ludvig Holberg in Bergen has thereby finally come true. Read more   Fishing and sightseeing with TSMY Weller With the TSMY Weller, you can explore the Norwegian fjords on your own. You can charter a 50-foot yacht and be picked up wherever you wish in the Bergen area – for trips and sightseeing. Regular trips from approx. 10 July to 20 August. Read more   Depeche Mode concert in Bergen The concert in Bergen will be the only Norwegian stop on Depeche Mode’s world tour in 2009. On Thursday 2 July, one of the greatest bands in the world takes the stage at Bergenhus Fortress - Koengen. Visit the huge Gingerbread Town; don’t miss the annual Festival of Light; join in the lighting of the Advent candles on Mount Fløyen and sledging down the sharp Fløyensvingene bends. Read more New port in Denmark Fjord Line has switched ports in Denmark from Hanstholm to Hirtshals. The boat for Bergen departs on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. Read more Varg Veum statue The artist Vidar Mæland has created a bronze statue of Varg Veum, the famous fictional private detective from Bergen. The sculpture was unveiled outside Strand Hotel – Rica Partner in Bergen. Read more Newly-refurbished labyrinth Bergen Aquarium is well-known for being highly informative, and now all the 50 tanks have LCD screens with factual information in six different languages. Read more Improved disabled access Scandic Bergen Airport has collaborated with the Norwegian Federation of Organisations of Disabled People on the development of a new room concept, adapted for people with a variety of disabilities.
